Student of the Month September 2011
Samantha Cruthers and Waneita Bovan
Mt. Morris High School senior Samantha Cruthers has been selected as the September Kiwanis Student of the Month. Samantha is the daughter of Tom and Jenny Cruthers. She is the oldest of 3 children. She has both a brother and a sister. Currently, they have a dog (Beagle) named Skeeter.
Samantha is a very hard working and dedicated student. She currently has a 3.54 grade point average and is ranked 15th in the class of 20 12. Samantha has a rigorous schedule this year; she is taking classes such as Spanish III, Chemistry II, Calculus and AP English. She is also involved in the entrepreneur class and works in the school store. She took a sports medicine course at the ISD skill center as a junior.
Samantha leads a very busy life. She has many interests and involvements both in and out of school.Samantha is very involved with athletics. She has represented the Panthers on several athletic teams. She has been a member of the Panther basketball, softball, and golf teams. Her freshman year she was the recipient of the Max Reed Award which recognizes an outstanding freshman scholar/athlete. In Softball, Samantha has received honorable mention all league honors for the past two years (for catcher position). She has been of the basketball team for all four years as well. Samantha also plays on the Panther Golf team. Her coach has noted, "Sam can really smash the long ball."
Samantha is not only talented in athletics, but she does well academically. She was inducted to the National Honor Society as a junior. She has helped with the blood drives as well as other volunteer projects like the Christmas donation program. She received her academic letter as a sophomore and has been on the honor roll for all four years of high school.
Samantha cites Mr. Pillay as being very influential staff members during her years at EAJ. Likewise Mr. Pillay was quoted as saying, "Samantha always comes in with a smile and ready to work. I know the work I will receive from her will be her best effort every single time. Samantha is ajoy to teach."
In her spare time Samantha enjoys spending time with her family, fishing with her dad and snowmobiling.
After high school graduation Samantha is considering Ferris State. She would like to pursue a career as a Pharmacist.
